James
H. Caruthers, Jr. was presented with this year’s Mayo Lester Community Service
Award during the Chamber’s annual meeting on January 27th. Jim’s selection was
in recognition of his involvement in the growth of Putnam County and continued
community support.
Since 1979, the Putnam County
Chamber of Commerce has awarded the Mayo Lester Community Service Award. The
award was named after one of the Chamber’s founding members and its first
Chairman, the late Mayo Lester. The Mayo Lester award is presented in
recognition of personal involvement in county-wide or local civic improvement
projects, active participation in community organizations, support of community
projects and/or organizations, and serves as an example of what a citizen and
community leader should be in donating time, energy and personal resources for
the betterment of their community.
Jim previously served on the Putnam
County Commission for a record 18 years, the board of directors of the Putnam
County Development Authority, the U.S. Route 35 Committee, and countless other
county groups and organizations. Jim currently serves on the Poca Town Council.
Congratulations, Jim Caruthers for this much-deserved recognition.
