Director (above, right)explain to attendees that "It's far from over."
The "just in time" committee is simply not ready to give up on the
fight for a new regional airport in Lincoln County. The group met again Wednesday,
January 19th at the New Horizons Computer Learning Center in Putnam Village
Shopping Center in Putnam County.
Undaunted by the negative spin continued by Yeager Airport supporters, the multi-county group decided to continue the effort aimed at building the new regional airport about 4 miles south of Exit 34 on I-64 in Lincoln County. In recent meetings, supporters of the regional airport concept have stressed that the "negative spin" placed on a regional airport by Yeager Airport supporters mis-state facts and mislead the public into believing that the regional concept is not a good idea.
Encouraged by the expected outcome of the Financial Feasbility Study, expected to be released within a matter of weeks, the group seeks the support of local citizens and state and federal officials in working to develop a regional airport in Lincoln County.
Expected results include increased job opportunities and enhanced economic developoment potential to counties adjacent to the proposed airport development. Recent articles in the Charleston Gazette indicated the proported failure of a similar facility in North Carolina. Members of the local Air Traffic Controlers suggested that there is "no comparison" between the proposed new regional airport in Lincoln County and the North Carolina facility. "It's like comparing apples to oranges," according to the president of the air controllers group.
