PCDA VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR - 2007 PRESENTED TO JIM CARUTHERS

James H. (Jim) Caruthers, Jr. was honored as the 2007 Volunteer of the Year by the Putnam County Development Authority at its annual business meeting on Tuesday, September 25, 2007.   In the photo below, Jim Caruthers (right) is presented a plaque in honor of being named the 2007 Volunteer of the year by Membership Chairman Wayne Bennett.

The Volunteer of the Year award is given in recognition of an individual’s volunteer efforts to the Putnam County Development Authority and towards development projects in Putnam County.

The Volunteer of the Year...shows concern for the community... is an active leader in helping to bring about positive change in public policy...serves in volunteer positions...and shows leadership in efforts to create jobs or in the development of community services.

This year’s winner has proven his spirit of volunteerism for many years and in many ways. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Putnam County Development Authority, the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, the Putnam County Planning Commission, Putnam County Community Corrections board, WVU Extension Service board, and the Putnam County Fire Service board. He also served as Liaison for the South Putnam PSD, North Putnam PSD and Putnam County Solid Waste Authority. He worked tirelessly as a member of the Putnam County Transportation Committee, serving as chairperson to encourage the construction of new US Route 35. He also served on several state and regional boards and committees.

A life-long resident of Putnam County and former Mayor of Poca and County Commissioner, Caruthers is also a Viet Nam Veteran with the U.S. Army and former Local 667 Boilermaker.
