PCDA VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AWARDS PRESENTED

September 26, 2001 -- About 90 people attended the first annual business meeting of The Putnam County Development Authority last night at Sleepy Hollow Country Club. The purpose of the meeting was to highlight some of the accomplishments of the development authority during the past program year and to acquaint our members and supporters with the efforts of the authority.

At the meeting, Mr. Leff Moore was presented the PCDA Volunteer of the Year Award. Mr. Moore was recognized for his past and present efforts as a volunteer in many organizations that benefit Putnam County and its citizens. Volunteer of the Year winners receive the award because they show concern for the community and are an active leader helping to bring about positive change in public policy, and serve in a volunteer position as a leader in an effort to create jobs or development of community services. Mr. Moore currently serves on the board of directors of the South Putnam Public Service District. The South Putnam PSD is working to increase community services by extending sewer service in the Midway and Fraziers Bottom areas of Putnam County as well as serving to help create new jobs by providing the service to Putnam Business Park.





G & G Builders, Gary Young, President, was presented the Community Development Award
during the ceremony. Mr. Young was honored for his encouragement of and active volunteer service, contributions to charitable or civic organizations and his philosophy that sets an example of good corporate citizenship. Mr. Young was also recognized as an employer who has actively worked to promote economic and community development through both volunteerism and by affecting corporate policy decision-making.

PCDA’s Executive Director Gary Walton gave a brief presentation on the accomplishments and challenges of the development authority during the program year and Secretary/Treasurer Dennis Prisk introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Lynn Gellermann. Mr. Gellermann is President and COO of Adena Ventures, one of the nation’s first New Markets Venture Capital Companies.

Mr. Gellermann discussed Adena Ventures, its partners, and its work to make equity investments in small businesses whose principal operations are located in central Appalachia.
