PCDA HAS NEW INTERNET WEB PAGES

Putnam County, November 10, 1999 - The Putnam County Development Authority (PCDA) announces the opening of their new home on the World Wide Web. The PCDA's web address is http://www.pcda.org .

Gary Walton, Director of the PCDA, said "having our own domain name and location on the Internet gives us an individual identity." The web pages utilize some information available through the West Virginia Development Office. Walton continues, "The state maintains an excellent web presence with extremely valuable information for new and expanding businesses. We can use much of this information by linking to the state's web pages."

The PCDA's new web presence provides a "gateway" information resource for visitors. Not only can visitors learn about the history of the development authority, there is also information about industrial sites, parks and buildings that are available. Labor force information, Putnam County Schools, a county profile, links to business incentives, the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce and Advantage Valley (a multi-county marketing organization) can be found on the PCDA home page. In addition, there's a "News" link that takes visitors to news releases, news stories and even meeting notices and agendas from the Authority's Board and Committees.

Walton also plans to include pages with links to local businesses and related links. Visitors are encouraged to visit the web pages again and again because it will be constantly under construction as new links are added and new information is gathered. The web pages are being done by Walton, as Creative Worx, at no additional charge for the PCDA.

"I like to keep the pages simple so they will download as fast as possible," Walton added because many internet web surfers simply do not want to wait for pages to download. "If visitors have a particular interest - for example an industrial building - they may be willing to take the extra seconds to download a picture and details," according to Walton. Otherwise, pages should download quickly and have an easy way for visitors to learn more about Putnam County, West Virginia.

If anyone has any suggestions for additional links or for ways to make our pages more user friendly, you can contact Walton at 304-757-0318 or via e-mail at: pcda@pcda.org .
