PCDA ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AWARD FOR 2000

November 10, 2000 - Wellington's was the site for the annual Putnam County Development Authority and Chamber of Commerce dinner meeting with the theme of "Bullish on Putnam County." Dan Angel, President of Marshall University was featured speaker at the event. The dinner also serves as a spotlight to announce the winners of the annual "Economic Development Volunteer of the Year Award" and the "Community Development Award" for 2000.

This year's recipient of the Economic Development Volunteer of the Year is Tom McKean, Tom is President of Terradon and has served as Chairman for both the Pipes for Putnam and Pipes for Putnam II committiees that were responsible for completing plans for water and sewer service to unserved areas of the county. Tom also previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Development Authority.

The Volunteer of the Year award is given in recognition of an individual's volunteer efforts to the Putnam County Development Authority and towards the completion of economic development projects in the county. Past Volunteer of the Year award winners were: John Smolak, Duane Phelgar, Virginia King, Wayne Bennett & Bob Ellis, John Romano and Virginia King.

The Community Development Award for 2000 is given in recognition of efforts to improve the quality of life for citizens of Putnam County by encouraging employees and others to be active in volunteer service, contributing to organizations that impact the quality of life, providing services that have assisted in the completion of a community or economic development project, setting an example of good corporate citizenship by providing services or positive economic/community development efforts, and recognizing members of the organization who have actively worked to promote economic and community development.

The 2000 Community Development Award is presented to the Putnam County Commission and Commissioners, James H. Caruthers, Jr.; James Withrow and Clinton Beaver.

Past Community Development Award winners have included Putnam County Bank, the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, American Electric Power, Lanham O'Dell & Company and Mayor Bill Whittington of Buffalo.
