December 17, 1999 - Governor Cecil Underwood has notified the Putnam County Development Authority that the PCDA is the recipient of a $30,000 Local Economic Development grant. The funds must be matched with local funds and used by local development agencies to "fulfill their mission and goals," according to the Governor.

The Local Economic Development grant program is administered through the Community Development Division of the West Virginia Development Office. One of the requirements of the program is the participation by the county in the Certified Development Community program. Putnam County was originally approved as a Certified Development Community in October 1993. The county recently received re-certification by the Development Office was was able to apply for the 1999-2000 round of LED funding.

Gary Walton, Executive Director of the PCDA, stated "we very much appreciate the support provided through the West Virginia Development Office and look forward to a very productive 2000. Economic Development continues to be ever more competitive and as a result funds must be directed at keeping Putnam County in the forefront of expansion and recruitment efforts in industrial development," Walton added.
