Location

Putnam County, West Virginia is located in western West Virginia. The county is located between the state's two largest cities (Charleston and Huntington). Charleston - the state capitol - is about 20 minutes east and Huntington is 30 miles west via I-64.

Interstate highway 64 passes through the center of Putnam County. The Kanawha River also flows through the center of the county and is a major water transportation route. Railroad service is provided by CSX Transportation and by Norfolk Southern Corporation.

Airports are located in both Huntington and Charleston and a regional airport facility is being proposed.
